Other Places You’ll Find Me

Dancing and movement is something that fills me with joy and I love sharing that with others.  I teach a music, movement, and mindfulness class for
preschool-aged children, as well as an occasional dance fitness class for adults.  At home with my children there is always music playing and impromptu dance parties while we prepare meals together or clean up after a busy day.

Courtney is such an incredible teacher, guide, and sounding board – far more than just a nutrition guru.  Her advice and insight really helped pull me out of a rough patch, deeper than I had let on with anyone at the time.

Meet Courtney McHenry, Registered Dietitian at New Roots

As a Registered Dietitian and mom of three children, I am committed to not only helping individuals heal and strengthen their relationship with food, movement, and their bodies, but also in supporting parents in promoting a positive body image in their children and raising balanced, confident eaters.

I battled through years of body insecurities and fad diets to eventually find peace with my body and food through a non-diet, intuitive eating approach to nutrition and finding a love of fitness.  Once I became a Mom, I wanted to support and encourage these same ideals in my children and the children in my community and of families I work with.

I use techniques based on Ellyn Satter’s Division of Responsibility in feeding and mindful eating to help parents overcome feeding struggles and support the natural intuitive eating skills all children are born with, while also providing tools to promote mindfulness and body connection for kids, and encourage a love of joyful movement.

What I Do

I believe that the key to achieving balance in nutrition, health, and life is tuning in to your own inner wisdom.  You are the expert of your own body, your preferences, and your experiences, and each person’s needs and lived experiences are unique and deserve individualized care.

I use a personalized, non-diet approach based on ideas from Intuitive Eating, Motivational Interviewing, Division of Responsibility, and meditation and mindfulness techniques, to support and guide you in learning how to listen and trust yourself and your body again so that you can reach your own individual goals for you and your family, make choices that feel right for you, and start feeling empowered and confident about your nutrition, your body, and your health.
